Our Jersey Cows

At Salvandi we make our own butter from fresh cows milk, full of cream and produced on the farm from our Jersey and Jersey Cross Cows. Surplus milk and the milk that has been separated from the cream is fed to the pigs, BoBo a Large Black & Prissy his wife, who both belong to my daughter. This spring we have three cows to calve, the first is Bindy, who very obligingly had a heifer calf. Bindy is a fabulous milker, producing between 5 – 6 gallons a day.  Madam calved a pretty heifer and is milking up a storm. Last but not least is BW. BW had a heifer calf on January 25th.

BW is very interesting as she is a 3rd generation Jersey who’s great grandfather was a British White.

To the right is a 3rd generation Jersey X British White.

This is a typical British White cow. The breed originated inthe UK and was imported to the USA during World War II. They are a dual purpose breed, and do extremely well as a very docile house cow when crossed with the Jersey.
Congratulations to the Ogilvie's on their purchase of Bindy's calf Salvandi Bossy and BW's calf
